چکیده

A thermal analysis and structure of a ridge single mode waveguide with a metal heater are presented. The steady-state temperature increases linearly and the thermal response becomes slower at the same power consumption, when the under-etched depth in the lower cladding increases. When the upper cladding thickness decreases, the thermal response becomes faster. This shows that a thinner upper cladding and a deeper etching are preferred to achieve a faster thermal response and lower power consumption, respectively. The numerical simulation also shows that the power consumption of the present ridge waveguide is almost a third of that for conventional one and the response time is half of that of the conventional one.

Performance of thermo-optic components based on dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides

Theoretical analysis of thermo-optic (TO) modulation with dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguide (DLSPPW) components at telecom wavelength of 1.55 mm is presented with simulations performed using the finite-element method (FEM). The investigated DLSPPW configuration consists of a 1 mm-thick and 1 mm-wide polymer ridge placed on a 50 nm-thin gold stripe and supported by a buffer l...

Hybrid optical waveguide devices based on polymers and silica

The hybrid integration of polymer and silica in optical waveguides can yield devices that combine the excellent thermo-optic properties of polymers and the superior passive waveguiding properties of silica. The large difference and opposite sign of the thermo-optic coefficients of both classes of materials can be utilized to create athermal waveguide devices. In addition, it can be utilized in ...

Controlling thermo-optic response in microresonators using bimaterial cantilevers.

We demonstrate a novel platform to control the thermo-optic sensitivity in nanophotonic devices by evanescent coupling of light with bimaterial cantilevers. The cantilever can be designed to provide a negative thermal feedback to passively compensate for the positive thermo-optic effect in the waveguide core. We demonstrate athermal operation over 14 deg in cantilever coupled Silicon ring reson...

An Ultralow Cross-Polarization Slot Array Antenna in Narrow Wall of Angled Ridge Waveguide

A low cross-polarization slot array antenna in the narrow wall of ridge waveguide is presented. A non-angled slot which is created in the narrow wall of the ridge waveguide is considered to be used as radiating resonant slot. The normalized resistance and normalized reactance curves are presented for design purposes. A six element slot array waveguide antenna with ridges on its narrow wall is t...
